Advanced Placement (AP)
An advanced placement (AP) course is a challenging learning experience that is recognized as highly effective preparation for success in college. A record of AP courses on a student's
transcript is an indication of a student's commitment to rigorous academics. Course
requirements are carefully outlined in the AP course descriptions in the student handbook and described by the College Board at https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse Typically, successful AP students are task oriented, proficient readers, and able to prioritize their time. The rigorous curriculum requires more effort from the students due to larger
volume of homework and outside reading. The faster pace of the class covers more content in greater depth. District 205 is committed to supporting AP students with resources such as tutoring, exam preparation, and guidance from highly qualified teachers. By participating in the AP
program, students are better equipped to graduate enrolled, enlisted, or employed
ready to thrive in a competitive global society.
