A comprehensive resource for students and parents to use while researching careers, colleges,vocational schools, the military, financial aid/scholarships, testing, and more!

Our goal is to support every student in developing a plan to be enrolled, enlisted, or employed following graduation—aligning with the school district’s mission.

 

COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM

Each year, over 100 college admission representatives visit Thornwood during the school day.
Updated schedules are posted:
  • On the bulletin board inside and outside the College & Career Center
  • On the College & Career Center website
  • In the daily announcements
  • Inside your student’s Google Classroom for the College & Career Center

Acceptance Letter Bulletin Board
Starting in September, a monthly bulletin is compiled by the College & Career Counselor to showcase students who are enrolled, enlisted, or employed after graduation.
 

THORNWOOD SCHOLARSHIP UPDATES (GOOGLE CLASSROOM & NAVIANCE)

Starting in September, a monthly scholarship list is compiled by the College & Career Counselor andposted in Google Classroom or Naviance.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER BULLETIN BOARDS

The bulletin boards are located outside the College & Career Center and in the Counseling Offices.

They are organized by category:

 

College Visitation Schedule:

  • All colleges, technical, and vocational schools scheduled for the current month.
  • Check regularly!

Testing Information:

  • ACT, SAT, ASVAB, PSAT, and PLAN test dates and deadlines.

Colleges, Technical/Vocational Schools – Trade School Thursdays:

Held on one Thursday each month.

 

Open Houses:
Local and post-secondary school open house dates.
 
NCAA:
Academic requirements and clearinghouse procedures for student-athletes.

 

Armed Services:
Information on scholarship programs, ROTC, and military academies.

 

Scholarships:

Located inside the College & Career Center.

 

3E EXPO Information:

The 3E expo is held every year to help students create a plan to be Enrolled, Enlisted, orEmployed after graduation!

 

Overview:

  • Enrolled: Colleges, technical schools, and vocational programs
  • Enlisted: Information about military options — branches, benefits, and career paths after enlistment.
  • Employed: Opportunities for entering the workforce — local businesses, internships, apprenticeships, etc.

 

COLLEGE/CAREER REFERENCES AND RESOURCES

College and Vocational school applications and other pertinent information are in the files, located in the College/Career Center.

Applications are also available on the individual college website or on the COMMON APP.

 

COLLEGES, JUNIOR COLLEGES, BUSINESS SCHOOLS, TECHNICAL SCHOOLS:

  • General reference books, catalogs, videos and more are available in the College/Career Center. Information on Christian Colleges and Historically Black Colleges.

VIDEOS:

  • General information on colleges, universities, and careers are available.

COMPUTER PROGRAMS:

  • DISCOVER - A computer based program with updated information on schools, careers, majors, financial aid, and inventories. Beneficial to all levels (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th).
U.S. NEWS:
“Getting into a good college”

 

INTERNET ACCESS/COMPUTERS:

Used to obtain information on schools, scholarships, and other related topics.

F.A.F.S.A:

  • Guides you through the process of financial aid. FAFSA’S are not available until October.
